As my grandfather once said, "Turkeys can see an ant take a leak from a hundred yards away."
However accurate that statement was/is, a question remains... why would you archery hunt for turkey?
Renowned for their eyesight, turkeys provide a different challenge when compared to your bog standard whitetail. You would think turkey hunting with a shotgun might be a much more logical way to take down America's favorite ground bird, given how much less movement is involved in the process of shooting when compared to a bow. It's not really about to ease of the hunt, though, for archery hunters. If all we cared about was "easy" then we could all move to the South and hunt private land deer over a bait pile while sitting in our heated box blind adorned with the words "Taj Mahal" over the doorway while sipping on beverages fresh from the mini fridge underneath the heated recliner.
But, you don't.
You enjoy the challenge, you chase the rush of calling in a tom and getting that shot off with the most stealth humanly possible (yes maybe in a blind, but still). Drawing back and letting your arrow fly, either with a decap broadhead or some other Thanksgiving-centerpiece-oriented broadhead, and knocking the bird down is a great feeling - but a ton more goes into the hunt before it's time to shoot.
Good camo/coverage, reliable calls, targets, packs/vests, optics, trail cams, and yes, even decoys all come in handy leading to the moment of truth.
