Black Gold bow sights have been around for 3-1/2 decades at the time of writing. They have made a name for themselves as incredibly reliable hunting sights at a wide range of price points to choose from.
On top of their wide sight selection, their true selling point is inside the scope. It does not matter what sight style, mount, or price. Black Gold has legendary pin brightness.
They are bright even when indoors and without the addition of a sight light. In addition, their Photochromatic shell technology in the fiber housing helps deliver the right amount of light to your fiber. Put simply, their pins always stay bright, and they never starburst. They're excellent.
Within the growing market for high-end hunting sights, brands like HHA, UltraView, Axcel, Dialed, and Spot Hogg have launched new flagship models. Black Gold did not want to fall behind.
This is not to say that Black Gold doesn't build great high-end sights - their Dual-Trac and Pro sights come to mind - but there was a gap in their lineup. That gap is where the UV Slider 2 and Dialed PRUF fit.
This is where the Black Gold MODD takes its place at the top of the hunting sight market.
So, where do we begin with the MODD? For starters, this sight feels sturdy and reliable in your hand. It has a rigid sight body. It also has a very smooth GlideDrive gear system. There is no sense of 'this might rattle loose' anywhere on the sight.
The mod(d)ularity of the scope system is a real selling point here, too. Instead of using different sights for different activities, you can use one scope. You can quickly swap single-, double-, and triple-pin cartridges in the scope. This gives you that added flexibility based on your current adventure.
If you prefer a more traditional hunting scope setup, the MODD is also available as a horizontal 5-pin scope.
They upgraded their wheel and slider system on the MODD, too. Their GlideDrive System is one of the smoothest on the market and it allows for more vertical travel than most other sights. The adjustment is precise, too.
Speaking of adjustment, the tuning of this sight is intuitive and simple. It includes three independent axis adjustments. The windage includes both gang and micro adjustments - for which no tools are needed.
The windage bracket can be shifted or flipped to fit any bow, no matter the mount style or location. This is especially helpful considering the MODD is available in Picatinny, Bridge-Lock, and Dovetail mounting options.
Working with their interchangeable pin cartridges, Black Gold’s new Speed Ring system also lets you quickly change sight tapes. This means you can go from a 3-pin indicator tape, triple-pin scope designed for hunting big game right to a single-pin scope with single indicator designed for your lightweight TAC arrows quickly and easily - all in the same sight.
Just for added ease of use and quality of life, Black Gold designed the MODD to utilize .015" pins. That means you can get clearer pictures at distance without sacrificing your pin visibility in low-light situations.
If you do happen to find yourself in a blind, Black Gold includes a rechargeable sight light, too. Though, with how good Black Gold's pins are, you might not ever need it. However, it's better to be safe than sorry, and Black Gold knows that.
